This free seminar for executives and board members of non-profit organizations is jointly presented by Williams Overman Pierce & Co., L.L.P. and Poyner & Spruill LLP.  The seminar will include ample time for questions, answers, and discussion.  Continental breakfast will be served.

 

Gwen Vass, a CPA with with a practice concentrated in non-profits, will present "Changes in Independence Standards: What you need to know." Non-profits that receive certain types of governmental funding face new standards. Participants will learn:

  • Why you should be thinking about these changes even if you don't receive funding from the government

  • How might Sarbanes-Oxley affect non-profits

In addition, Pearl Doherty, attorney to numerous tax-exempt organizations, will discuss "The Ins and Outs of Intermediate Sanctions." Learn about the most important change in the federal income tax law relating to tax-exempt organizations in thirty years. Topics include:

  • Does the new law apply to you?

  • How to protect yourself from the sanctions

  • What exposure do managers and directors now risk?

  • Will the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley affect your organization's reporting in the future?
