Summer
Associate Program
The summer associate program is designed to
provide an opportunity for summer associates to gain practical legal
experience performing substantive work for current clients of the firm.
The program is organized to allow each
summer associate to gain experience in a wide variety of practice areas.
Generally, each associate will spend
several weeks working with partners and associates in various practice
groups of the Business and Litigation Departments. Summer associates are
also encouraged to attend depositions, hearings and trials, and to
participate in other non-research related projects.
Poyner & Spruill assigns a mentor to each
summer associate. Each mentor is responsible for monitoring the work
load and performance of his or her summer associate. The mentor also is
responsible for obtaining feedback from the attorneys for whom the
associate works, and communicating such feedback to the associate.
Poyner & Spruill hires each summer
associate based on the expectation that he or she is capable of becoming
a full-time associate of the firm. The firm recognizes that its
long-term strength and prosperity depend on the quality of the personnel
attracted through the summer program.
