Raleigh, NC – Poyner Spruill Creditor’s Rights Partner David M. Warren hosted a judicial delegation from Korea earlier this month in the firm’s Raleigh office. Warren was selected by the United States Bankruptcy Administrator for the Eastern District of North Carolina to meet with a group of judges from Korea who were visiting the United States to study the workings of our court system.
The judges met with Warren and Bankruptcy Administrator Marjorie K. Lynch at Poyner Spruill’s offices to learn more about Warren’s Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee practice and the administration of cases to which he is assigned. The judges also observed a bankruptcy court hearing held by the Hon. Stephani W. Humrickhouse in Raleigh.
Bankruptcy proceedings are relatively new in Korea, with the laws evolving since 1962. In recent years, the volume has increased significantly, and the visitors were interested in evaluating best practices and increasing efficiencies.
Warren welcomed the opportunity to share information on topics such as how a bankruptcy case is administered, how assets are liquidated, and how he manages his cases: “The US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina has been a model for many others. Bankruptcy Judge J. Rich Leonard donated weeks of work a few years ago to assist with the court system in Africa. I was fortunate to share ideas with the Hon. Mitsuhiro Enomoto of Hiroshima, Japan last year, and I welcomed the opportunity to share ideas and procedures with the Korean delegation. The experience was certainly enriching on my end, and I hope the judges left with some useful information. I am appreciative to Ms. Lynch for allowing me this opportunity.”
David Warren has over 20 years of experience in the debtor-creditor area. This representation includes representing creditors and serving as bankruptcy trustee and state court receiver. He received both his undergraduate and law degree from Wake Forest University. He may be reached at 919.783.1112, or at dwarren@poynerspruill.com.
