Resolutions for the Resolute Employer

Many of us make New Year’s resolutions to improve ourselves. In this spirit, we offer the following resolutions for employers:

  • My company’s personnel policies will be up to date and in compliance with recent changes in applicable law.
  • My company will have a written sexual harassment policy, anti-harassment policy, and equal employment opportunity policy. In addition, if my company is subject to the Family Medical Leave Act, we will have the required written policy.
  • Human Resources will become familiar with the new overtime regulations and will be certain that all company employees are properly classified.
  • My company will adopt a document retention policy.
  • There will be no inappropriate documents in the employees’ personnel files.
  • Our company’s human resources personnel and managers will be properly trained in applicable employment law, including conducting proper investigations of claims.
  • My company’s employment application and interview checklist will be in compliance with applicable law.
  • My company will use performance evaluation and disciplinary write-up forms.
  • My company will schedule regular performance evaluations of our employees during the coming year.
