Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce partners Karen Chapman, Sarah DiFranco, and Susie Gibbons were recognized as North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s 2019 Women of Justice Award honorees.

After a hiatus, the Women of Justice Awards were revived to highlight women across the state of North Carolina demonstrating leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice, and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice and exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession. Poyner Spruill’s Deborah Sperati was a recipient in 2014 when the honors were last given.

A special section with profiles for each of the honorees ran in North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s Monday, Aug. 26 edition.

Chapman’s litigation practice at Poyner Spruill includes representing businesses in contract disputes, unfair and deceptive trade practice claims, and other business torts. She also defends various individuals and companies against allegations of professional malpractice.

DiFranco represents businesses, financial institutions, contractors, and material suppliers in a variety of litigation matters in both North Carolina and South Carolina in state and federal courts. She also represents landowners in condemnation actions.

Gibbons regularly advises and defends clients in the full range of employment related issues, including discrimination, retaliation and harassment, wrongful discharge, Affirmative Action Plans, Fair Labor Standards Act, workplace privacy issues, and Family Medical Leave Act.
