Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce partners Ken Burgess, Nick Ellis, and Sam Johnson have been named 2020 Leaders in the Law by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. Notably, the firm had more honorees this year than any other firm or legal organization in the state and is the only firm to have more than two honorees in the 2020 class.

Burgess, Ellis, and Johnson were among the 25 individuals honored during a virtual awards ceremony on November 30.

The North Carolina Lawyers Weekly Leaders in the Law awards honor legal professionals in the state of North Carolina determined to have gone above and beyond in their profession and their community. They represent the most influential individuals within the state’s legal community for the given year.

A health care attorney with more than 30 years’ experience advising clients on a wide range of regulatory, litigation, compliance, and operations issues, Burgess focuses heavily on issues affecting long-term care and acute care providers.

Ellis represents businesses, governmental agencies, and individuals in litigation. Clients bank on his more than 33 years of experience to present their cases to judges and juries in North Carolina’s federal and state courts.

Johnson is a business attorney who advises clients primarily regarding corporate, real estate, and general business matters. He is an advocate for economic development in North Carolina and regularly assists new organizations coming into the state.
