Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Poyner Spruill is pleased to announce our new class of Summer Clerks has joined the firm. This summer we are excited to welcome seven clerks to our firm who will serve in our Raleigh, Charlotte, and Rocky Mount offices.

Returning clerk, Adia Craig, will serve the first half of the summer in our Raleigh office and the second half in our Charlotte office. Jessica Hobbs and Madison Mitchell will serve in our Charlotte office. Sarah Lim will serve in our Raleigh office, along with Kelly Newcomb and Tia Overway. Griffin Spencer will serve in our Rocky Mount office.

Adia Craig is joining us for a second summer as a rising 3L at North Carolina Central University School of Law. Adia will be mentored this summer by Missy Jaskolka and Nia Doaks. Last summer, Adia helped the firm with a multitude of projects including; preparing a motion and proposed order for summary judgment in NC State Court, preparing a consent order allowing for the deposit of interpleaded funds, drafting a memo summarizing possible damages in a construction defect case, preparing a motion to obtain surplus proceeds from a foreclosure sale, drafting a brief in support of a motion to dismiss various tort claims, and researching and collaborating with senior attorneys to develop a webinar geared toward educating clients about COVID-19 litigation trends.

Jessica Hobbs is joining us after completing her first year at the University of North Carolina School of Law. Jessica will be mentored this summer by Nick Tosco and Andrea Liberatore. Jessica is passionate about the underserved in her community and has over two years of experience as a Social Worker in the Charlotte area before becoming a Residence Life Coordinator at Charleston Southern University.

Sarah Lim is joining us after her first year at Duke University School of Law. Sarah will be mentored this summer by Kate Dewberry and Cosmo Zinkow. Sarah has experience working for Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that champions the public interest, before spending the summer before law school interning for Brady United.

Madison Mitchell is joining us after her second year at the North Carolina Central University School of Law. Madison will be mentored this summer by Sarah DiFranco and Sarah Fritsch. Madison has worked for King Law Offices, PLLC as a paralegal and clerk before completing her 1L clerkship at Intel Corporation

Kelly Newcomb is joining us after her first year at Campbell University School of Law. Kelly will be mentored this summer by Charlie Davis and Stephanie Goodbar. Kelly spent three years as a paralegal at Janvier Law Firm, PLLC.  During that time, Kelly managed all chapter 13 bankruptcy cases from the time of filing through dismissal/discharge

Tia Overway is joining us after her second year at Campbell University School of Law. Tia will be mentored this summer by Amanda Sherin and Brett Carpenter. Tia is the Editor-in-Chief at the Southern Journal of Policy and Justice and completed her 1L clerkship at Young, Moore, and Henderson P.A.

Griffin Spencer is joining us after his first year at the University of North Carolina School of Law. Griffin will be mentored this summer by Nick Ellis and Savannah Story. Griffin has experience working for the North Carolina Bar Foundation as a Research Assistant and spent his summer before law school interning for Lowe & Williams, PLLC. Additionally, Griffin has recently interned with Judge Laura T. Beyer out of the Western District of North Carolina.
