Poyner Spruill LLP attorney Cecilia Barreca has taken on a new leadership role within the North Carolina Bar Association’s Tax Section as the Young Lawyers Division Liaison. Barreca will serve as a bridge between early-career lawyers and experienced tax professionals, helping to foster collaboration and mentorship within the field.
Barreca is leveraging her experience in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and other general corporate matters by integrating tax strategy into her transactional work to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients. She is a rising star in the field, having been included on The Best Lawyers in America® “Ones to Watch” 2026 list for her work in business law. Earlier this year, Barreca authored “Cloudy with a Chance of Taxation: Tax Considerations in the Wake of a Natural Disaster,” featured in the Summer 2025 issue of USLAW Magazine.
Barreca will serve a one-year term as the Tax Section’s Young Lawyers Division Liaison while also continuing to serve her three-year term as a member of the Tax Section’s Tax Council.
