Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Poyner Spruill Partner H. Chalk Broughton Jr. has been elected a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).

To qualify for membership as a Fellow in the prestigious organization, a lawyer must have at least 10 years’ experience in the active practice of probate and trust law or estate planning, as well as an outstanding reputation in the field and exceptional skill. Fellows also must have made valuable contributions to the practice of trust and estate law.

“Chalk’s election as a fellow is a testimony to his knowledge and hard work,” said Joseph “Bo” Dempster Jr., Poyner Spruill’s managing partner. “He exemplifies Poyner Spruill’s culture of excellence.”

Broughton was chosen at ACTEC’s annual meeting in March when the Board of Regents voted to offer him membership based on his substantial body of work. He is a Board Certified Specialist in estate planning and probate law and was ranked among Law & Politics magazine’s North Carolina “Super Lawyers” in 2007. He is also a member of the North Carolina State Bar Specialty Committee for Estate Planning and Probate Law.

ACTEC brings together more than 2,700 of the top trust and estate lawyers and law professors in the country. The nonprofit organization fosters communication and education among its members, who work to improve laws, procedure and standards in the areas of probate, trust and tax laws.
