Chief Justice Mark Martin has presented the Friend of the Court award to Jerry Parnell, a Partner in our Charlotte office. It is the highest award given by the Judicial Branch.
Parnell was presented the award on January 8, 2016, during the N.C. Equal Access to Justice Commission meeting in Raleigh. “Jerry’s receipt of this award reflects his tireless work in improving the quality of justice in North Carolina,” Managing Partner Jerry Parnell said. “We are proud to call him part of our team.”
Parnell has served as a founding member of both the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism and the Equal Access to Justice Commission. He is also a recipient of the Chief Justice’s Professionalism Award, has served as a founding member of both the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism and the Equal Access to Justice Commission. He is also a recipient of the Chief Justice’s Professionalism Award.

After graduation from the University of North Carolina School of Law, Parnell served as law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Bobbitt of the North Carolina Supreme Court and as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association, a Past President of the North Carolina State Bar, a Recipient of the Chief Justice’s Professionalism Award, a sustaining Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and concentrates his practice in professional malpractice defense, white collar crime, and government investigations. In more than 40 years of practice he has been involved in a wide array of civil and criminal cases throughout the western half of North Carolina, in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and in the appellate courts of North Carolina.
