CHARLOTTE, NC -On June 28, 2014, Poyner Spruill LLP attorneys and staff celebrated the firm’s 25 years in Charlotte with a pancake breakfast fundraiser to support Claire’s Army. Over 300 clients, friends and family attended the event, and raised over $3,000 for the organization.
Established in 2013, Claire’s Army was inspired by 2 year old Claire Ratliff’s battle against Neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. During her treatment, Claire’s family received support from friends, neighbors and strangers, which allowed them to focus on spending as much quality time as they could with sweet little Claire. After Claire passed away, Claire’s parents started Claire’s Army to provide support for other families undergoing pediatric cancer treatment. The organization helps alleviate some of the daily stresses and financial burdens facing these families by delivering meals, giving gift cards that can be used to purchase groceries, medicine or gas, providing financial assistance with utility bills, and finding resources to meet other needs that the families may encounter.
In addition to the breakfast fundraiser, Poyner Spruill attorneys and staff have raised an additional $5,000 in monetary and in-kind donations, which will be matched by the firm’s donation of $5,000. Karen Chapman, a partner with Poyner Spruill, and also a Claire’s Army board member says, “Our firm is excited to partner with such a wonderful organization which does so much to directly help families fighting childhood cancer in our own backyard.”
