Poyner Spruill LLP partner Ken Burgess enjoyed the opportunity last week to speak with Duke Health System’s HomeCare & Hospice staff, including hospice social workers and chaplains. His hour-long presentation entitled “Understanding and Implementing Advance Directives in Hospice: The Most Common Questions, Answers, and Issues.”
Burgess used case examples and North Carolina’s “family consent decision tree statute” to address common questions and provide legal insight into important end-of-life healthcare planning issues in the industry.
“I appreciate the opportunity to speak to such a distinguished group of professionals,” Burgess said. “The Duke Health System is a wonderful organization, and I thank everyone for their participation in this presentation.”
Named a Band 1 Healthcare attorney in Chambers USA’s 2019 Guide for the fourth year, Burgess advises providers on legal issues arising in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, hospice, home health, and other spheres of the industry. He also represents ancillary providers (pharmacy, DME, therapy, etc.).
