Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to share that paralegal Patti Clapper will serve as a Site Coordinator in the 2020 North Carolina Mock Trial Program. She will be volunteering at the Hillsborough regional on Feb. 1, 2020.

The North Carolina Mock Trial Program teaches high school students about the justice system and the trial-by-jury process crucial to preserving citizens’ rights. The program seeks to create “engaged citizens through the hands-on learning activity of mock trial, enabling students to gain the civic understanding, self-confidence, analytical reasoning, and communications skills that are vital for tomorrow’s leaders.”

Both prior to, and during, the day of the regional competitions, site coordinators oversee and organize the behind-the-scenes logistics. Their service includes recruiting and directing the site volunteers, arranging refreshments for volunteers, setting up the courthouse, registering teams, assisting the tabulation staff, dealing with issues that arise, and much more. Site Coordinators are vital partners with the Regional Coordinators in every aspect, ensuring students and observers have a fun and memorable experience.

Clapper works out of Poyner Spruill’s Raleigh office and is the sole paralegal for family law cases at the firm, assisting family law attorneys in all aspects of their cases. She has obtained her Certified Paralegal designation from NALA with a specialty in Civil Litigation and has also obtained her NC Certified Paralegal designation through the NC State Bar.
