Laura Crumpler

Biography

Laura has spent her career advising and representing public education institutions and leaders across North Carolina. Her practice includes charter school matters, teacher licensure, administrative law, constitutional law, employment law, educator conduct issues, and board governance.

As Special Deputy Attorney General with the Education Section of the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, Laura represented and advised the State Board of Education, Department of Public Instruction, Charter School Advisory Board, Textbook Commission, Governor’s School Board of Governors, and numerous other boards, commissions, officials, and employees serving the state’s public education system. She has also served as General Counsel to the North Carolina School Boards Association, Assistant City Attorney for the City of Wilmington, and in private practice.

Before beginning her legal career, Laura taught elementary school in Stokes County. She later taught at the North Carolina Governor’s School, Wake Tech Community College, Meredith College, NC State University, and North Carolina Central University, giving her a unique perspective on the legal and practical challenges facing educational institutions.

After earning her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law, Laura clerked for former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Joe Branch. She has represented clients in federal and state courts and before the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings.
