Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Raleigh, NC – Saad Gul, a partner who focuses on privacy issues, appellate law and regulatory issues, has earned the globally recognized Certified Information Privacy Professional designation from the International Association of Privacy Professional (IAPP).

“Privacy and data security are no longer technology issues; they are business issues that affect every business, nonprofit and government agency,” Saad says. “This certification will help ensure that Poyner Spruill clients continue to be ready for the ever-evolving legal and regulatory challenges in this area.”

The CIPP certificate signals that Saad has demonstrated foundational knowledge about information privacy and data protection laws and regulations. The certificate requires knowledge of essential privacy concepts and principles, laws and regulations related to privacy, legal requirements for handling and transferring data, and more.

Saad advises clients on a range of issues related to information security, including risk management, cloud computing and breach obligations. He’s written more than 12 law review articles, as well as pieces of trade journals, and served on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Cyber Security Task Force.

In addition to his privacy practice, Saad represents clients in complex commercial litigation, regulatory disputes, and antitrust matters. He has handled high-profile litigation in state and federal appellate courts across the country, including the United States Supreme Court.

Saad received his JD cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Wake Forest University in 2006 and BA from Davidson College in 1997.
