Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce partner Steve Shaber as a recipient of the 2020 North Carolina Psychological Association  (NCPA) President’s Award. Steve was honored alongside psychologist, Lucy Daniels, Ph.D. This is the first year this award has been given to two individuals in the same year. Steve was recognized by NCPA in appreciation for his dedication and outstanding service to psychologists in North Carolina.

The NCPA Annual Meeting was held virtually for the first time on Thursday, June 25, 2020, where award recipients were recognized online by peers and colleagues.

Steve has spent his entire career in health law – first with the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office and, since 1985, in private practice. His clients range from large hospitals to sole practitioners. Most of his work focuses on Medicare and Medicaid fraud & abuse, provider reimbursement, false claims, hospital medical staff matters, and professional licensing board cases. He also advises physicians with business and contract matters. His cases have involved patient deaths, large-dollar claims for recoupment, and other urgent matters. Steve has also helped providers with a number of innovative business transactions. He speaks frequently to various professional organizations, including the North Carolina Psychological Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, the North Carolina Medical Group Managers Association, and the North Carolina Hospital Association.
