Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce that Timothy Wilson has been appointed as the Superior Court Judge for District 7A covering Nash County. A seasoned partner at the firm and a member of the Management Committee, Tim has over 25 years of experience in the courtroom. His practice focuses on eminent domain and land condemnation, and tort and insurance litigation, including insurance defense and coverage, products liability, will caveats, and major plaintiff’s personal injury and wrongful death.

During his time as a litigator, Tim has served as lead counsel in jury trials in more than fifteen counties in Eastern North Carolina. He has also argued multiple cases before both the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court. Tim is recognized for his insurance litigation work in the 2023 Best Lawyers in America® list. In 2018, he was named the State Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation.

Governor Roy Cooper made the announcement on December 9, 2022, stating, “Tim Wilson brings years of legal knowledge and experience to the bench. I am grateful for his willingness to step up and serve as the Superior Court Judge in Nash County.”

“We are excited for Tim to begin serving the state as a Superior Court Judge,” managing partner Dan Cahill said. “He will be greatly missed in the office; however, we are proud of Tim for entering this new stage in his career.”

Tim earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia, graduating with cum laude honors. Before joining Poyner Spruill, Tim taught high school math as a Teach for America charter corps member.

Tim is expected to take the bench in January 2023.
