Poyner Spruill LLP is proud to continue its tradition of service and advocacy with its fourth annual Service Week, honoring the life and legacy of our late colleague, Cheslie Kryst. Kryst served as both an attorney and later the firm’s Diversity Advisor, championing social justice and advocating for underserved communities. Her legacy of service continues to inspire the firm’s efforts each year.
From May 4–8, 2026, the Poyner Spruill DEI Committee organized opportunities for employees to give back to local organizations while also focusing on mental health awareness. The week began with a presentation from BHS, the firm’s employee assistance program, focused on managing emotions during turbulent times and offering practical strategies to support well-being. On Tuesday, members of the Raleigh office volunteered with Haven House Services, cleaning the Second Round Boxing Gym and organizing their Essentials Pantry. On Wednesday, volunteers in Rocky Mount partnered with Meals on Wheels to help deliver meals to seniors in the community. Service Week concluded on Friday with Raleigh volunteers tending to the Inter-Faith Camden Street Learning Garden. The Charlotte office also volunteered on Friday at Hospitality House, preparing meals and gardening.
In addition to the annual Service Week, Poyner Spruill and Wake Forest University School of Law established the Cheslie C. Kryst Advocacy and Social Justice Law Scholarship in 2022. The scholarship supports students from underrepresented backgrounds who are passionate about social justice and civil rights.
