Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to welcome two attorneys to the firm. Paul Cox and Emily Steele are both based in Poyner Spruill’s Raleigh office.
Paul Cox brings a wealth of experience in election law, campaign finance issues, complex litigation, and regulatory advice and policy to the benefit of his clients. Prior to joining the firm, Cox served as General Counsel to the North Carolina State Board of Elections and Special Deputy Attorney General at the North Carolina Department of Justice. In these roles, Cox litigated high-profile constitutional, statutory, and administrative cases and advised state and local officials on complex legal and policy questions. Before practicing law, Cox was a public relations professional and policy aide for federal political campaigns and elected officials. He draws on this background to help clients navigate high-stakes legal challenges. Cox grew up in Sanford, NC, and attended undergraduate at UNC-Chapel Hill and law school at Berkeley Law. He clerked for Raymond Fisher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Emily Steele assists institutional investors, developers, and nonprofit organizations in acquisitions, dispositions, and joint ventures. She handles a wide range of matters related to commercial real estate projects, including drafting purchase and sale agreements, preparing closing checklists, and conducting title, survey, and zoning reviews. Steele obtained her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of the Wake Forest Journal of Business and Intellectual Property, as President of the Transactional Law Competition, and as a Business Organizations teaching assistant. At home, Steele and her husband love to spoil their French Bulldog, Petunia.
