Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce that partner Nick Tosco was sworn in yesterday as the Town Attorney for Ranlo, North Carolina. Nick will work closely with the Town Board to provide legal counsel for a wide range of issues and to represent the municipal government in litigation matters.

Nick concentrates his practice in the areas of local government law, land use, zoning, and complex civil litigation. During his nine years in private practice, including over four years at Poyner Spruill, Nick has defended local governments against constitutional challenges, represented clients in zoning dispute litigation, negotiated favorable condemnation settlements, represented clients in quasi-judicial and legislative proceedings at the local and state level, and managed extensive reviews of complex public records.

Prior to graduating law school, Nick served as a law clerk for the Charlotte City Attorneys’ Office, assisting with lawsuits, land use challenges, contracts, and city ordinance matters. He also interned with Dan Clodfelter during his time as a North Carolina State Senator. Following graduation, Nick practiced in the areas of local government law, land use, zoning, and complex civil litigation at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP prior to joining Poyner Spruill LLP in 2018.

In 2021 and 2022, Nick was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for Government Relations Practice, Land Use and Zoning Law, and Administrative/Regulatory Law. He is an active member of the Charlotte community, serving on the City of Charlotte Arts and Culture Advisory Board and the Safe Alliance Men for Change Committee. Nick earned his juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law and his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University.
