Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

RALEIGH, N.C. — Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce Riley Smith has joined the firm as an Associate in the construction practice group.

Smith represents a wide variety of clients in construction related matters, including general contractors and construction managers, subcontractors, architects, engineers, suppliers, surety companies, as well as public and private owners and developers.

Additionally, Smith brings experience gained from a top general contractor analyzing claims sounding in tort and contract on state and federally funded projects, negotiating and drafting multimillion-dollar subcontracts and purchase agreements, and counseling project and company executives on mitigation of risks and fulfillment of contractual obligations.

His experience as both a project leader and an attorney is invaluable to our clients,” Poyner Spruill managing partner Dan Cahill said. “Poyner Spruill is committed to addressing key issues for our clients and we see this as an opportunity to not only better serve our current clients but also to grow our client base and broaden our offerings.”

Prior to joining Poyner Spruill, Smith worked as an Assistant Project Manager at Archer Western Construction (a Walsh Group company), where he was recently responsible for starting-up a $421 million joint venture in Columbia, SC and previously served as executive understudy to the Senior Vice President for the Southeast Transportation Group.

Smith earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver.
