Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce the firm has elected Brett Carpenter, Stephanie Goodbar, and Colin McGrath as partners in the firm, effective January 1, 2023.

Brett Carpenter focuses on preventing and resolving employment issues for employers of varying sizes based throughout the country and litigates employment and other civil matters in both state and federal courts. Brett is experienced in many areas of labor and employment law, including race, age, gender, religion, national origin, and disability employment discrimination and harassment claims, wrongful discharge and retaliation claims, and wage and hour claims. He also defends clients before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, and in arbitration.
Stephanie Goodbar represents national and regional lending institutions, farm credit associations, and other commercial clients in the financial services, real estate, and manufacturing industries on a wide range of bankruptcy and creditors’ rights matters. She concentrates her practice in the areas of creditor’s rights, collections, bankruptcy, workouts, foreclosure, lender liability and all related litigation. Stephanie represents her clients in state and federal courts on a variety of issues and regularly appears before the United States Bankruptcy Courts in all three districts of North Carolina. Stephanie also focuses on consumer bankruptcy, and is a court appointed Facilitator of the Loan Modification Management Program in the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Colin McGrath focuses his legal practice on zoning and land use advice and counsel, as well as litigation, for both public and private entities. Colin represents landowners, developers and local governments in state and federal court on a myriad of land use, zoning and environmental issues. He has also successfully represented landowners and developers in proceedings before local Boards of Adjustment, City Councils, and County Commissioners on a variety of complex and controversial land use projects. Colin also devotes a substantial part of his practice to civil litigation, representing clients in a wide range of complex business disputes including corporate governance disputes, government-related disputes, tax litigation, antitrust matters, construction disputes, and trade secret litigation.
