She regularly defends clients in employment litigation, as well as in general public accommodation and tort litigation, focusing on minimizing exposure and achieving efficient resolutions.

Biography

Adia advises employers of varying sizes and based throughout the country on a wide range of workplace issues arising under Title VII, the ADA, and the ADEA anti-discrimination, harassment, and retaliation provisions, the FMLA and equivalent state leave laws, and the FLSA and equivalent state wage and hour laws. Adia also defends both private- and public-sector employers, including local school boards and municipalities, in litigation against employment, constitutional, and general tort and public accommodation claims. She has experience representing clients in state and federal court and in administrative proceedings before agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL), and the North Carolina Division of Employment Security Commission (NCDES).

She works closely with clients to develop practical, strategic solutions designed to advance objectives, reduce risk, and drive efficient outcomes.

In her experience, Adia has:

  • Conducted onsite investigations into various employment-related complaints and prepared related investigative reports.
  • Prepared multi-state employment handbooks and policies to align workplace practices with evolving federal and state requirements.
  • Drafted and reviewed executive employment and severance agreements to protect client interests and minimize post-separation disputes.
  • Guided clients through mass-layoff events ensuring federal WARN Act and equivalent state mini-WARN Act compliance.
  • Negotiated a $150 settlement of a disability discrimination charge before the EEOC, significantly minimizing client exposure.
  • Represented a North Carolina public venue in a complex public accommodation discrimination case successfully obtaining the dismissal of seven federal and state claims.

Adia also regularly presents on employment law topics and provides effective employment management trainings for clients.

Outside the office, Adia enjoys traveling, singing karaoke, and spending time with family and friends.
